This is an unofficial estimate for personal planning. Your official score is the one recorded by your grader and your unit; scoring standards and policy come from the Army, not from this site.

How the AFT is scored

The Army Fitness Test has five events, each worth up to 100 points, for a maximum of 500. Your raw performance on each event is looked up in the official scoring table for your age group and sex, and the five point values are added together. There is no partial credit between listed thresholds.

  • Maximum Deadlift (MDL) Three repetitions at the heaviest weight you can manage with a hex bar.
  • Hand-Release Push-Up (HRP) Correctly performed repetitions in two minutes, hands released at the bottom.
  • Sprint-Drag-Carry (SDC) Five 50-metre shuttles: sprint, sled drag, lateral, carry, sprint. Faster is better.
  • Plank (PLK) Hold a straight-line plank position. Longer is better.
  • Two-Mile Run (2MR) Total elapsed time over two miles. Faster is better.

Passing has two conditions that both have to hold. Every event must reach at least 60 points, and the five events together must reach 300 points on the general standard or 350 on the combat standard. Failing a single event fails the test no matter how strong the other four were.

Worked example

A 24-year-old male soldier on the general standard posts a 240 lbs deadlift, 30 reps hand-release push-ups, a 1:55 sprint-drag-carry, a 2:30 plank and a 16:30 two-mile run.

That is 395 points against a 300-point requirement, with a lowest event score of 74 — so this soldier passes.

What 60 points takes, by age

The minimum passing performance on each event, for male soldiers, pulled straight from the official scales. The standards ease as age brackets rise, but never disappear.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the AFT the same thing as the ACFT?

It replaced it. The Army Combat Fitness Test became the Army Fitness Test on 1 June 2025. The Standing Power Throw was dropped, leaving five events, and the scoring scales were reissued. Most people still search for the old ACFT name, but if you are testing now you are testing on the AFT scales this calculator uses.

What score do I need to pass?

Two things have to be true at once: at least 60 points on every single event, and a total at or above your standard — 300 points on the general standard, 350 on the combat standard. A 400 total still fails if one event came in at 55.

What is the difference between the general and combat standards?

The general standard applies to combat-enabling specialties and is normed by both age and sex. The combat standard applies to the 24 combat military occupational specialties (per Army Directive 2026-07), requires 350 points instead of 300, and is sex-neutral — it is age-normed only, so everyone is scored on the same scale.

Why did my raw score not move my points at all?

The official scales are sparse rather than continuous. For a given age and sex, several point values simply do not exist, so adding five pounds to a deadlift can leave you on exactly the same score until you cross the next listed threshold. This calculator awards the highest point value you have genuinely reached, which is how a grader scores it.

Do the plank and the two-mile run score in opposite directions?

Yes, and it trips people up. Longer is better on the plank, because you are holding a position. Faster is better on the sprint-drag-carry and the two-mile run, because you are covering a distance. The calculator handles each event in its own direction.

Where do these scoring tables come from?

Directly from the Army's published scales — "AFT Final Tables (Update) 15 MAY 25", approved 15 May 2025 and effective 1 June 2025. The tables were machine-parsed from that PDF rather than retyped, so the thresholds here match the official document exactly.
